Free interactive calculator that converts raw lab or recipe nutrition values into FDA 21 CFR 101.9 compliant rounded label declarations and %DV.
Enter raw lab or recipe values below. Our mathematical engine applies strict FDA 21 CFR 101.9(c) rounding increments and 2026 Daily Reference Values (%DV) in real time.
| Mandatory Nutrient | Raw Input | FDA Rounded Label Value | 2026 %DV | 21 CFR 101.9 Rounding Rule Applied |

Displaying unrounded decimal numbers from recipe software (like 143.6 Calories or 6.3g Total Fat) is one of the most common triggers for FDA warning letters and retail buyer rejections at Whole Foods, Target, and Amazon Grocery.
| Nutrient / Component | Range 1 (Zero Threshold) | Range 2 (Mid Increment) | Range 3 (Upper Increment) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calories | < 5 cal → declare 0 | 5 to 50 cal → nearest 5 cal | > 50 cal → nearest 10 cal |
| Total / Sat / Trans Fat | < 0.5 g → declare 0g | 0.5 g to < 5 g → nearest 0.5 g | ≥ 5 g → nearest 1 g |
| Cholesterol | < 2 mg → declare 0mg | 2 to 5 mg → declare '< 5 mg' | > 5 mg → nearest 5 mg |
| Sodium | < 5 mg → declare 0mg | 5 to 140 mg → nearest 5 mg | > 140 mg → nearest 10 mg |
| Carb / Fiber / Sugars / Protein | < 0.5 g → declare 0g | 0.5 to < 1 g → declare '< 1 g' | ≥ 1 g → nearest 1 g |
| Vit D / Calcium / Iron / Potassium | < 2% RDI → may declare 0 | ≤ 10% RDI → nearest 2% DV | 10–50% → nearest 5% (>50% → 10%) |
Under 21 CFR 101.9(c)(1), any calorie value above 50 must be expressed to the nearest 10-calorie increment. Therefore, 143 rounds to 140, and 146 rounds to 150.
If a serving contains less than 0.5g, it is declared as 0g. If it contains at least 0.5g but less than 1.0g, it is declared as '< 1 g' (or 'less than 1 g').
